The 9th National Cultural Heritage Day was celebrated in Beijing, China in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Civil Affairs and other associated departments.
In order to preserve and promote the country’s rich and intricate culture and heritage, the Chinese government in the year 2005 declared the second Saturday of June to be celebrated as Cultural Heritage Day every year. This year’s theme was ‘Protecting Culture Heritage and Urbanization.
To popularize Chinese culture and heritage, whilst making its citizens aware of its ancient remnants, the celebration involved live performances, competitions, exhibits on calligraphy, painting and ceramics, etc.
